Large scale history migration into AspenTech IP21

There is not much we have not come across in upgrading, installing and migrating data from legacy systems into more modern real-time historians. History migrations are extremely time-consuming and are not for the uninitiated or faint of heart. High frequency data collection over a number of years across daylight savings boundaries can add to the complexity and magnitude of the operation if you are not prepared.

On this project we were combining data from 3 separate VMS systems and a legacy Windows historian into a single AspenTech Infoplus.21. Custom tools were developed in order to run the data migration in as efficient as possible a manner making the best use of time out of office hours.

As always this project had a tight deadline and the work had to be completed in a maintenance window. It was a high pressure project that was successfully completed before the scheduled plant startup.
